1818 is the date listed as the first known black female firefighter in the United States.

Going back even further, The aediles and tresviri nocturni (a group of slaves) were also employed to fight fires slaves used water buckets to put out fires and axes to tear down buildings near the fire in order to prevent the fire from spreading.
